What you will learn

  • Expand B2 vocabulary with topic-based collocations, idioms and precise connectors.
  • Use the subjunctive, conditional sentences and other B2 grammar accurately.
  • Read authentic texts for opinion, attitude, detail and argumentative structure.
  • Write clear essays, opinion articles and formal letters for the DELE B2 tasks.
  • Plan each of the four pruebas and manage time, errors and exam-day nerves.

Before you start

  • A solid A2/B1 foundation in Spanish and basic subjunctive awareness.
  • Experience reading short authentic texts and writing simple messages.
  • Familiarity with common tenses and a habit of reviewing mistakes.
  • Willingness to speak, listen and revise vocabulary daily.

Lesson 1 B2 Vocabulary and Collocations

DELE B2 assesses whether you can choose words naturally in real-life contexts. Build topic banks for work, health, environment, technology and travel, and record every word with its common collocations so your Spanish sounds less translated.

  • Learn high-value collocations such as "tomar medidas", "llevar a cabo" and "plantear un problema".
  • Study Spanish idioms and fixed expressions that appear frequently in media and conversation.
  • Organise vocabulary by theme and practise using connectors such as "sin embargo" and "además".
  • Note register differences between neutral, formal and colloquial words.

Collocation test: learn each word with a verb and a context: tomar medidas (take measures), llevar a cabo (carry out), plantear un problema (raise a problem). Cover the collocation and try to recall it before checking.

Example

Task example: Complete with the best collocation: "El gobierno va a ___ medidas para reducir el desperdicio." (tomar)

Worked example: "El ayuntamiento tomó medidas para reducir el tráfico."

Note that tomar medidas is the natural collocation, not "hacer medidas".

Lesson 2 Subjunctive and B2 Grammar

The subjunctive is the heart of B2 Spanish. Master it in advice, doubt, emotion, purpose, time and conditional clauses, and combine it with reported speech, impersonal se and relative clauses to express yourself with precision.

  • Use "es importante que", "quiero que" and "dudo que" with the present subjunctive.
  • Form "si + imperfect subjunctive + conditional" for hypothetical situations.
  • Use "para que", "cuando", "aunque" and "en cuanto" with the correct mood.
  • Practise reported speech and impersonal structures such as "se dice que".

Subjunctive trigger drill: group triggers by meaning: advice (es importante que), doubt (no creo que), emotion (me alegro de que), purpose (para que), time (cuando + future), and condition (si + imperfect subjunctive). Write one example for each group.

Example

Complete: "Quiero que mis hijos ___ (aprender) español." -> aprendan.

Worked example: "Es importante que los estudiantes practiquen a diario."

The phrase es importante que triggers the present subjunctive practiquen.

Lesson 3 Reading for Opinion and Detail

DELE B2 reading tasks mix factual articles, opinions, advertisements and correspondence. Train yourself to separate fact from opinion, follow the writer's argument, and return to the text for precise evidence before choosing an answer.

  • Skim each text for purpose and stance before reading the questions.
  • Highlight opinion markers such as "en mi opinión", "desde mi punto de vista" and "a mi juicio".
  • Match questions to exact details and paraphrases instead of echoing surface words.
  • Practise the four task types: multiple choice, gap filling, matching and multi-text comparison.

Fact vs opinion: underline opinion markers such as en mi opinión, desde mi punto de vista, creo que, and contrast them with factual reporting. When two options are close, choose the one whose words match the text's attitude, not your own view.

Example

Before answering, ask: "Is this the author's opinion or a verifiable fact?" and underline the evidence.

Worked example: Text: "Según el informe, las ventas subieron; sin embargo, creo que el resultado es temporal."

Fact: sales rose. Opinion: the result is temporary.

Lesson 4 Writing Essays, Letters and Opinions

The writing prueba has two tasks: a personal or formal message and a longer text such as an opinion essay, article or report. Plan the structure, adapt the register, use argumentative connectors and leave time to revise spelling and agreement.

  • Write a clear opening that states purpose, two or three developed paragraphs and a conclusion.
  • Use connectors such as "en primer lugar", "por otra parte", "sin embargo" and "en conclusión".
  • Match register to the task: neutral in emails, formal in letters and reports.
  • Check agreement, accents, verb tenses and the required word range before submitting.

Structure plan: write an opening that states your purpose, two or three developed body paragraphs with examples, and a conclusion that returns to the main point. Use connectors such as en primer lugar, además, sin embargo, and en conclusión.

Example

A strong opinion paragraph opens: "En primer lugar, es necesario reconocer que..." and closes with "por tanto".

Worked example: Opinion essay outline: introduction with thesis, paragraph 1 for benefits, paragraph 2 for drawbacks, conclusion with balanced judgement.

Lesson 5 DELE B2 Exam Strategy

DELE B2 has four pruebas: reading, listening, written expression and oral expression. Build a realistic plan for each one: practise under time pressure, read instructions carefully, and use the preparation time in the oral prueba to organise your ideas.

  • Know the timing: reading and writing require strict time budgets with a checking buffer.
  • For listening, use the pauses to read questions and predict vocabulary before the audio starts.
  • For the oral, structure a short monologue and expect to exchange opinions with the examiner.
  • Review official sample exams and keep an error log for grammar and vocabulary.

Prueba plan: give each prueba a time budget and practise under real conditions. In the listening prueba, read the questions during the pause and predict the topic; in the oral, use the preparation time to outline three ideas and connect them with reasons.

Example

A balanced DELE B2 week: one reading task, one listening task, one writing task and 10 minutes of speaking every day.

Worked example: In the oral preparation, write: idea, example, reason, then connect them with "porque" and "por ejemplo".
